Fuel

What fuel costs in Madeira this week

There is no point driving around looking for a cheaper pump. Madeira caps fuel by regional decree, the cap is recalculated weekly, and it takes effect at midnight on Monday — the same number at every station on the island.

From 7 Sept 2026 to 13 Sept 2026, the maximum price of fuel in Madeira is unleaded 95 €1.921, road diesel €1.951, coloured diesel €1.493 per litre. The cap is set by regional decree and is the same at every station on the island.

Nobody publishes a history of these caps — the official notice carries this week and the next, then overwrites them. This one is ours, kept since 31 Aug 2026.

Why there is no price comparison here

Unleaded 95, road diesel and coloured diesel are under a maximum retail price regime set by joint decree of the Regional Secretariats, recalculated weekly and in force from 00:00 on Monday. Every station charges the cap, so a station-by-station table would be the same number printed twenty times.

Mainland Portugal genuinely does have a station-level market, and DGEG runs a price portal for it. That portal lists eighteen districts and all of them are on the mainland — there is no Madeira entry at all. Advice telling you to shop around for fuel here has been copied across from the mainland without checking.
